To Sharon, Margie, and Bobby a tremendous thumbs-up for a wonderful reunion!! The time and energy that you put into the planning had to have been unbelievable. Thank you so much for your dedication and patience. Now that you have a few reunions under your belt, I can't wait for our next one. I was so delighted to see friends of long ago and to reminis about days past. There are a few classmates I wish could have come. But sometimes, life gets in the way.

I want to applaud Margie for the fabulous job on her creation of our web sight. It was so very easy to use and had a wealth of information on it. It's a wonderful way for us to stay in touch now that the reunion is over.

PS. The location was great and the food good, especially the Salmon!

Her sister was in contact with us to find Pam Tanabe.  I sent her an e-mail telling her that people wanted to know about Thais.  Haven't heard back from her.

Hmmm...images of the covers of the books I mentioned below did not appear, so here is the re-post with the titles and authors listed. Excellent books that will bring back many memories:

If anyone would like to read about the history of our beloved South Shore as we remember it, I recommend:

The South Side by Charles Celandr (He ran a photographic studio on 71st Street. The cover alone will bring back memories!)

...and for a poignant recounting of what happened to South Shore as we graduated in 1965, I recommend:

The South Side: The Racial Transformation of an American Neighborhood by Louis Rosen

Thanks, Michael, for that info; should make for an interesting read.  My sister has, on occasion, sent me info on a couple of other SS forums/etc, the names of which currently escape me; I'll post them after I do a bit of digging.  And, yes, here's wishing everyone a happy and healthy holiday season and new year.

Incidently, thank you to those who posted pics of the reunion.  Having planned all along on attrending, an opportunity to scratch off a bucket list entry unexpectdely arrose and I couldn't resist.  The Burning Man arts festival in the Black Rock desert of Nevada was an experience to behold and defies any easy explanation.  For the uninitiated (and interested), I suggest checking it out at Burningman.org or watching any of the myriad of youtube videos depecting the 2015 event, as well as previous "burns".  It is a unique event in all the world and I highly recommend it; certainly not for everybody, potentially life changing, and something you can never forget.  Only around 6% of the 70,000 atendees/participants were over 60y/o so I was a bit of an anomaly but........I'd do it again!!

Peace

Good to hear from you, Gary.

I didn't make it clear in my previous post that the book, The South Side by Charles Celander is a book of photographs (with captions) of South Shore as we remember it.

Mr. Celander was a photographer on 71st street, and the images of everything from South Shore High School to the Illinois Central electric trains, to the Jeffery and Stony Island theaters will bring back warm memories for everyone of that wonderful time in that wonderful place that we all shared - and which nurtured us better than anyone of us probably realized.

Thais Chapin (Champion)

This message is about Pam Tanabe Griffith, as I am still trying to locate her for my sister, Thais Chapin-Champion.  Questions:  Does the name Caroll M. Griffith ring a bell to anyone?  I came across a gal that may be Pam's daughter, Kristianne Angelique Grantham, age 48.  If anyone here at South Shore has any knowledge of Pam's whereabouts, kindly post under Thais' profile.  I have several phone numbers of Kristianne's and I will phone them in the morning.  Sincerely, Thea A Chapin

Thais Chapin (Champion)

Hi Nancy!

That is very helpful information about Pam's other 2 sisters!  I'vw scoured the net and no sign of Pam!  I've contacted her former husbands' relatives on fb to contact me.  The trail ends in 2011 as her last known address was in Brighton,MI.  Do you have Caryn's website link?  Perhaps someone there knows something.

I'll pass on the message to Thais.  Her birthday is March 7th, give her a call and wish her a happy birthday:)

Best wishes,

Thea

I do  remember Leslie and am sorry to her of her passing. Our group will obviously diminish and it's good that we have a forum to share the sad events as well as the happy ones.

I can't believe that this site is posting reactionary political articles as ads. I understand that the site needs financial support but I think it's a profound mistake to use political advertisement, especially at this time. I can accept the prostate ads - that fits, but not articles that espouse the Libertarian point of view. Please stop this kind of advertising!

10/02/16 11:08 AM #48

Ann Kurland (Adler)

I agree that we should restrict political advertisment, since this is such a contentious election, but calling the Libertarians "reactionary" is quite a stretch.
