I did not know Donald but I think he is the only person in our class that was killed in the viet nam war.my husband and I were in dc right before our reunion in 1995.i found his name on the viet nam war memorial and left a pebble by his name in rememberance.
I knew Don Mate in class at SSHS only in passing but years later I met his brother Robert Mate who hired on the Illinois Central Railroad in Chicago and I "pulled" him as a conductor several times on the Electric Suburban trains ! Bob was a great fellow and good "Rail" !
