Ruth Constantine (Peterson)

It is with deep sadness that I tell you another of our classmates has recently passed.  Ruth Constantine died July 19 of this year of ovarian cancer.   I know she has been battling this for some time.  Our sympthies go out to her family and friends.  Thanks to Ed Hoornaert for sharing this information.

Thanks Ed for letting us know. I remember Ruth as quite girl, always friendly.  Sorry to hear about her struggle with breast cancer and her passing. Sincere condolences to her entire family.

Ruth was such a sweet classmate. She seemed to be very serious about her

studies. I had no idea that she was so sick and I was getting ready to send her

a bright and  cheery Birthday Wish for the 22nd. May she now Rest In Peace...

My condolences to her family.

I was very sorry to hear about Ruth's death. Though I wasn't close to her in high school I definitely remembered her well. Then fairly recently we had some in-depth email exchanges and I found her to be very thoughtful and intelligent. She also had the faith to keep her life meaningful to the end. I was impressed by her openess in dealing with all she had to confront. I'll miss our communications.

Ruthie was my first girlfriend. She made the approach, not me -- at age 14 or whatever, I would never have had the courage. I've always been grateful to her for that, because it was a major milestone on the road to maturity. She made me feel good about myself.

She also played an (inadvertent) role in getting me together with my last girlfriend, Judi Seckinger, whom I married a week after graduating from U Chicago; we recently celebrated a 50th anniversary. I don't think that was what Ruthie intended, though, when she suggested that momentous double date!

I lost contact with her for decades until folks put together this reunion website. Since 2015, I've been in regular e-mail contact with Ruth. She was a voluminous correspondent! Even though I'm a writer by trade, it was hard to keep up with her. She poured her soul out in those messages. I don't know if she did that with all her correspondents, but I like to think having someone to listen to her fears and pains eased her mind somewhat.

I wouldn't have been in touch with her if not for this website. Thanks so much for your hard work, organizers!

I am so saddened to hear of Ruth's passing. She was such a sweet girl and so reserved and intense with her studies in school ! My sincere condolences to her family at their loss of Ruth !

I am so very saddened to hear of Ruth’s passing. She and I had communicated a few times over the last couple of years, so I knew that she was fighting mightily against this horrible disease. When I hadn’t heard from her in awhile, I knew that she was likely failing. Her courage and optimism during this difficult journey were admirable. I honor and remember her strength and her wonderful friendship when we were classmates. Rest in strength and peace Ruth.

I am also saddened by the news of Ruth's struggle with ovarian cancer and her passing.  She truly had a wonderfully generous and sincere heart.  I will certainly pray for her eternal life.
